Islington Mill, in collaboration with Salford City Council have been awarded a £3.3m grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to create a new artist-led community around the Islington Mill site – ‘The Other City’.
The ERDF funding supports the purchase and conversion of New Islington Mill to complete the heritage footprint of the historic mill and expand the Salford’s creative centre for generations of artists to come. Alongside the renovations a Creative Support Programme will nurture new and growing creative enterprises in Greater Manchester through expert advice, training and development opportunities. The programme will be delivered over the next 3 years.
Part funded by The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) The Creative Support Programme will be delivered in partnership with Salford City Council.
The Creative Support Programme will be run from The Other City but be open to creative SMEs at the site and across Greater Manchester.
Over a 3-year period The Other City project will:
- Offer business survival, support and growth service to 200 GM-based creative SME industries.
- Increase workspace accommodating 118 jobs
- Create 40 new jobs in supported SMES
Workshop deliverers! Following the success of our WEAVE Summer School, we have two more WEAVE Schools currently in the pipeline and we are looking for workshop facilitators and guest speakers for these events. We want to call out to our community to see what you might like to offer and invite you to submit a proposal to be part of our upcoming programme and share your experience and expertise.
WEAVE is our business support programme for creative organisations so we are looking for workshops to benefit them, these could be aimed at makers, artists, performers or producers – or for businesses in general. Please send your proposals and fees to weave@islingtonmill.com

The Other City is receiving £3.3mil funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Communities and Local Government is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund.
