We knew we could depend on Fat Out to hit the ground running with sensational post-lockdown live experiences, and Friday 4 June SAW Pretty Grim live at Unit 2 to prove it. THE performance was a new piece aptly entitled ‘My whole world is coming apart’ and was a collaboration between Pretty Grim and QU.E.EF, featuring the additional talents of Samir Saunders and Black Peppa. The work evolved from the artists’ Fat Out Residency in October 2020 and was originally intended to be part of Fat Out Fest 2020, but coronavirus had other plans. The long-awaited live incarnation breathed fresh air into the work and into our live output here at the Mill. Thank you to Fat Out, all of their incredible artists, and to you all for keeping the faith. Read more about the artists here.

The wonderful 7 Spot Pottery are bringing back their much-loved pottery classes and will be listing new sessions this week. Beat the queue and sign up to their newsletter at the bottom of their homepage and be the first to hear. Classes take place at their studio in Islington Mill and usually sell out quick. Summer 2021 is set to be the next Summer of Love… and Jessie-May Lingerie has the perfect garms for it. Jessie-May has been working on a new lingerie and swimwear collection inspired by the movement and styles of the original 1967 San Francisco ‘Summer of Love’. The artist has created her own printed fabric based on her paintings of psychedelic vaginas, then designed, pattern cut and sewn the whole collection. It’s a made-to-order service, excluding no body shapes or sizes. Visit her website to get yours and also follow @jessiemaylingerie on Insta for more pics and info. Peace…!

We recently added the artist Jane Lawson to our tenant directory. Jane’s work explores diagrams and she also believes we have a lot to learn from the world of fungi. She uses this fascinating life form, amongst other things, to explore issues around human society, economics, and our complex relationships with the world. Jane also recently produced a poster work for the Precarious Straits project in a creative collaboration with Jade Monserrat and Industria, check it out and order here. Our Tenant Directory is a great way to see the breadth of artists who are part of Islington Mill, to find collaborators, commissions and general awe-inspiring people. Have a delve.

Before ya go…

Enjoy impaTV’s video of Pretty Grim (and the mighty QUE.E.F) collectively killing it at FatOut Fest 2020.
