The gay urban experience is intimately tied up with the liminal space of the sauna and bathhouse.
Artist Greg Thorpe will be in situ at the Encore Room Sauna on Islington Mill courtyard on the evening of Tuesday 24th July to read an assortment of texts relating to this complex and exciting history. Texts will include memoirs and real life tales of sexual daring and doom, the queering of the urban bathhouse, the fatal fire at the Everard Baths in fiction and reportage, the closure of saunas at the height of AIDS, and other responses to the thrill of sauna culture in poetry and art.
Spaces are very limited so please book attendance by email to greg.thorpe@icloud.com
