A small-scale, artist-led research and development initiative by Nicola Smith, We Are Resident offered a micro-research residency supported by Tampere Artists’ Association, Finland and Islington Mill which is specifically for an artist whose family or personal circumstances limit participation in normal residency opportunities.
In 2014, Nicola participated in a 2-week artist residency in Finland with her husband and then 6-month old baby in tow; an opportunity she found rare given that most residencies tend to cater for the individual, with few accepting partners let alone children.
In July Nicola with her family will be returning to the Takahuhti Art Centre in Tampere for a micro residency and later this year artist Helen Sargeant with her 7 year old son Naoise will be artists’ in resident in September. We Are Resident with Islington Mill will be welcoming Finnish artist Saara Sillanpää accompanied by her partner Laurent Chambon with their sons Etieene 4 and Aarnie 2 years old at the end of October for a 2-week artist residency. More information will follow soon…
This project is supported by Arts Council England.
