Gemma Parker is a multi-disciplinary artist taking inspiration from pop culture, history and ideas of identity. She is especially attracted to characters and situations that have a whiff of magic and glamour about them and is drawn to projects that enable her to research specific events or people that have been overlooked or marginalised. Gemma’s work can be playful and celebratory using a variety of methods to create artwork that is both provocative and accessible.
Working with drag and burlesque performers, dancers and fellow artists, past work includes collaborations with Black Gold Arts, Stoke Pottery Museum and Art Gallery, Sunderland Council, Bury Art Gallery, Cornerhouse, The Lowry, and commissions for The Whitworth Art Gallery, HOME and Northern Art Carbooty.
