I am a practicing mixed media Textile Artist. Specialising in mixed media textiles and embroidery design. My practice crosses boundaries between textiles for fashion, jewellery and sculpture.
I am a member of the ‘contemporary textile handling resource’ ‘Tactile Too’ based within the Whitworth Textile gallery in Manchester and I combine my practice with teaching, supporting the academic staff within Costume, Textiles & Fashion at the university of huddersfield. I deliver textile and embroidery techniques through demonstrations and workshops.
The main focus of my research is challenging the process of embroidery. Throughout my degree I combined the scientific process of magnetism with stitch to develop new ways in which to connect, embellish and transform materials.
I enjoy exploring and sampling with the possibilities around the ‘Alchemy of Cloth,’ this is the exploration and transformation of cloth or turning something mundane into something magnificent.
