Claire Batt is an artist, researcher and experimental dressmaker who investigates, deconstructs, and reinterprets garments to produce objects that merge traces of the original with her own layers. Her practice is informed by shibusa, a Japanese aesthetic concept which expresses a sense of quiet, understated, and unobtrusive beauty or elegance.
Claire studied MA Embroidery at Manchester School of Art (graduating in 2022) and is currently undertaking a practice-led PhD at De Montfort University entitled Adapting Historical Zero Waste Cutting Methods for the Current Fashion Industry.
