Christian Asare: Open House

Multi-disciplinary artist Christian Asare is currently in residence at Islington Mill’s Artist B&B. From 19–24 July, Christian will open the space to welcome visitors for a viewing of his extraordinary collection of portrait paintings. The works are exhibited in the atmospheric setting of the refurbished industrial engine house at our original Salford mill building.

This will be the largest collection of Asare’s paintings to be exhibited in the city since 2019. Asare’s work depicts the faces of Black individuals whose stories, work and lives have impacted upon the artist, from George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, to important Manchester community organisers, artists and activists; as well as more mythical and symbolic images.

The artist’s style is bold and colour-drenched, astral and Afro-futurist in its evocations; and tender and loving in its depictions.

Visitors are welcome to drop in to visit the space at the following times:

Mon 19, Tues 20, Wed 21 & Fri 23 July:
12pm–3pm & 6pm–8pm

Saturday 24 July:
1pm–5pm: with artist Q&A at 2pm and 4pm.

(Closed Thurs 22)

If you are unable to make any of these times, please email greg@islingtonmill.com to enquire and we will try our best to accommodate your visit.
