Artist Talk // Gabriel Birch + Sophie Yetton of Pavilion

Gabriel and Sophie from Pavilion have been invited to talk about their new project ‘The Archive Series’ for which they recently completed a residency at The Foundling Museum in association with Artquest.’The Archive Series’ is an umbrella project devised by Pavilion that explores the potential transformations of self-contained collections, archives or museums. Pavilion are interested in re-imagining the narratives embedded in the existing curatorial attitudes of specific collections. Most recently they have been working with the Royal College of Art Library and The Foundling Museum. Works for ‘The Archive Series’ adopt collage and video montage to narrate alternative mythologies for these collections, and the works will find residence online.

Pavilion is the collaborative duo Sophie Yetton and Gabriel Birch, based in South East London. They have been exhibiting for over five years including at Limbo/Margate, Arnolfini/Bristol, Dilston Grove/London. Pavilion’s research practice is concerned with the spatial, theoretical and virtual framing of the art object in the gallery, and works take the form of furniture, archive, zines and video.
