TRANSFIGURED NIGHT #1

“DON’T MISS OUT ON THE THRILLING OPENING PROGRAMME OF MANCHESTER COLLECTIVE’S 2017 SEASON.
Starting with Biber’s riotous 16th century depiction of drunks singing folk songs in a pub, Music Director Rakhi Singh leads the Collective through a tour-de-force programme spanning 400 years of western composition. Following the Biber, John Cage’s String Quartet in Four Parts, a baroque-inspired spiritual odyssey through the seasons, is thoughtfully paired with extracts from The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell.
In the second half, the Collective perform Arnold Schoenberg’s seminal string sextet, Transfigured Night. Based on a poem by Richard Dehmel, this searing work explores themes of love, passion, and betrayal.”
