Social Art Network Manchester Meet Up

Social Art Network Manchester @ Unit 4 – Islington Mill

Unit 4, Regent Road Trading Estate, Salford M5 4DE

This is the social meet up for anyone interested in social art in Manchester and has come out of discussions at The Social Art Summit

The Social Art Summit (socialartsummit.com) was an artist-led review of socially engaged arts practice in the UK, held in Sheffield in November 2018, and convened by Social Art Network. Practitioners from around the country came to share practice and discuss ideas, the Social Art Summit explored what it means to be making art through social engagement right now.

Post-summit, groups have started meeting across the country. This is the first meeting to start a Manchester group to provide a regular meeting place for those interested in social practice and socially engaged art.

Aimed at artists, activists, community groups, curators, students, academics, funders and wider sectors working in the social realm, the Social Art Network aims to develop agency in the field of art and social engagement and test the ground for launching a Social Art Biennale in 2020. In the nearer future, we are working towards a ‘think-tank’ event to take forward learning from the Summit. This event will take place at Tate Exchange in April.

If you are interested in being part of the discussion leading up to the event or shaping what the network could look like and be used for in Manchester, come along on Wed 27th February 2019 6:30- 8:30pm.

This meeting is currently being held in Unit 4 located behind in Islington Mill on the Regents Road Trading Estate. There is one small step to get into the front door. Please get in touch with Anna at annahortoncremin@gmail.com with any access needs or questions about the meet-up.
