RIDE YOUR PONY No.02: An Annual International Group Exhibition 12 – 28 October 2018

Venue at George Henry Lees, Houghton Street, Liverpool. L1 1RL

Web: rideyourpony.club Instagram: @rideyourpony.club

Admission: FREE. Wheelchair accessible. No toilets.

Ride Your Pony is pleased to present to you its second annual international group exhibition this October as part of the Liverpool Independents Biennial. 26 participants from across the globe including an array of Designers, Illustrators, Photographers, Artists and Makers have each been invited to create a piece of work to exhibit in response to a lucky dip letter of the alphabet. The brief asked the participants to use their letter which they received in the post as either an object within their work, or as a starting point for them to begin from.

On Thursday 11th of October 6-10pm, the doors will open to the public and invited guests for the exhibitions launch party where the 26 pieces of work will be on display. Following our successful inaugural show last year at Islington Mill in Salford, which then toured to Liverpool, the 26 participants were asked whether they would like to participate again, nominate somebody new or let Ride Your Pony invite a new contributor.

For our second show, we have some exciting new participants, a selection include: Anton Zoetmulder, a Dutch Architect based in Delft; Molly Fairhurst, an Illustrator based in Bristol; Lucy May Schofield, an Artist currently based in Northumberland, soon to be in Japan for 3 months; Adam Griffiths, a Manchester based Designer and Director; Marilyn Farley, a Mediator / Creator based in Montreal Canada and Agnes Wolkowicz an Artist based in South Korea.

To find out more please visit www.rideyourpony.club or follow @rideyourpony.club on instagram for regular posts on each of the participants.

The exhibition will remain on view from Fri 12th Oct – Thur 28th Oct, Wed – Mon 11-5pm.

Ride Your Pony was established in 2017 by Artist Marie Jones also known as Kochi Kochi. It is a nomadic annual international group exhibition inviting new and old guests to participate in its exhibitions and events including recent graduates, educators and professionals from within their respective fields. Ride Your Pony launched in October 2017 at Islington Mill in Salford and toured onto Liverpool School of Art in February 2018. During it’s launch, a residency including 8 of the participants was held at Islington Mills B&B.

The residency offers the chance for creatives from differing practices and backgrounds to come together, discuss their work and share their learnt skills. Last years participants came from the Basque Country, France, London and across the North West. Workshops included Orizomenegami, a Japanese art of folding and dying fabric techniques, digital machine knitting and a group tour of the exhibition.

This years residency will be held in Liverpool on Oct 20 – 21.

More on Marie Jones: KOCHI KOCHI is the moniker of Artist Marie Jones who works from her studio at Islington Mill. With a background in Graphic Arts and Lecturing in higher education Marie began to focus full time on her artistic practice in 2017. Marie’s work explores various forms from combining computer generated visuals with more traditional and tactile mediums such as needlework and knitting, to photographing still life sets of objects often led by curiosity and humour.

In the past year Marie’s practice has focussed on demonstrating the parallels of typography within textiles, particularly those created with hobbyist craft techniques. Marie pushes the limitations or given instructions of traditional techniques to create and discover new objects.

#IB18

2018’s rebirth of Independents Biennial is set over 75 venues around in Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Knowsley and Sefton. Four public art trails (Tunstall Street, Hoylake Promenade, Fulwood Community Garden, and Rimrose Valley Country Park) sit alongside four festival commissions, and over 100 exhibitions.

This year’s festival tackles issues close to the hearts of artists who live and work in the region, and invites international artists to the city to share their take on the spaces we inhabit.

As well as the calendar, and events pages on www.artinliverpool.com/ independentsbiennial2018 you can pick up festival information in Art in Liverpool Magazine & from the former George Henry Lee’s department store, where we have flyers and our team are on hand to guide you through the festival.
