On 4th November 2015 artist Gustav Metzger made a ‘Worldwide Call to Remember Nature’. Towards the end of a life spent protesting against oppression, nuclear weapons and exploitative capitalism, he turned his concern to damaged Nature.

Artist Phil Barton organised a Day of Action to Remember Nature at Islington Mill and published a Remember Nature Manifesto exactly two years on from Metzger’s original call. This auto-destructive work is an impassioned call to remember the ‘other than human’ facing human-led extinction and to cease swamping Nature with our waste, extraction and destruction – whether plastics, development, technologies or agriculture.

Barton’s installation, Out of Sight, Out of Mind (2017) is currently on continuous view in our Courtyard.
