The Public Meeting provides a new and relevant cultural platform to spark debate in Manchester. Committed to challenging the status quo and changing the conversation. We believe positive change happens when people come together, share ideas, and dare to do things differently.

As we celebrate the centenary of the suffrage act and Manchester’s contribution to the radical movement, we take a closer look at Manchester’s present day cultural and political position. With rapid growth and regeneration in both Manchester and neighbouring Salford, do we know what and who is shaping our city?

This event is chaired and led by Nicholas McGeehan, a researcher and academic, who until recently worked on the Persian / Arabian Gulf states for Human Rights Watch. Nicholas has been encouraging groups and individuals in Manchester to more closely scrutinise the city’s close relationship with the government of Abu Dhabi, and is campaigning for the release of the award-winning Emirati activist Ahmed Mansoor.
